Tornadoes Tear Through Central U.S.

There have been at least 29 tornadoes that have gone through Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Texas according to the Weather Channel. 13 people were injured when a tornado in Oklahoma tore  up a mobile home park. The Oklahoma paper said, "A zoo called Tiger Safari in the town of Tuttle was also hit, and initially the county sheriff’s office said some animals were on the loose, but they were later accounted for." That wouldn't have been good if there were zoo animals running around. In the city of Norman highway I-35 is shut down because of downed power lines.

Chile Volcano

In the duration of 24 hours, the Calbuco Volcano in Chile erupted twice with the second eruption larger than the first one.  Officials of the Ministry of Interior and Public Safety are concerned about there being a third eruption. In some places it is estimated that 23.5 inches of ash fell and there is a 12 mile exclusion zone surrounding the mountain. About 4,400 residents were evacuated. Calbuco is part of the Andes Mountain range and hasn't erupted since 1972, which was only a minor eruption. The last major eruption of this volcano was in 1962.

An Afghan nightmare: Forced to marry your rapist

A woman by the name of Gulnaz was raped at the age of 16 by her cousin's husband. She was jailed for committing adultery. Her attacker, Asadullah, was convicted but it was later reduced. He still says that he never raped her. From the rape, Gulnaz had a daughter who was then named, Smile. Later Gulnaz was forced by the government to marry Asadullah because of culture issues. Asadullah says, "If I hadn't married her, (but) according to our traditions, she couldn't have lived back in society. Her brothers didn't want to accept her back. Now, she doesn't have any of those problems." When Asadullah leaves the room, Gulnaz says, "My brothers opposed the marriage and told me to take my daughter and go to Pakistan to live with them instead. But now we're married, they disowned me and won't see me again." Her closer family would not accept her if she did not marry Asadullah. She had no support from family or friends, only support from people of other cultures. Now she is married to Asadullah and is pregnant with their third child. She wants her first child, Smile, to grow up a be successful without shame. Gulnaz says, "No, I couldn't fulfill my wishes in life. I married this man; I cut relations with my family only to buy my daughter's future." Her husband and family members are putting false ides in her head and now she tells the story as if she was not raped even though four years ago she claimed she was.
"Instead of a new start, what followed for Gulnaz was a quiet, Afghan solution to the "problem" -- a telling sign of where women's rights stand in Afghanistan despite the billions that have poured into this country from the U.S. government and its NATO allies during more than a decade of war."

New Ford Car Automatically Obeys Speed Limits 3/27

Recently inventors at Ford Have thought of a new system called the 'Intelligent speed limiter.' The system is built into the newest edition of the S-Max car. The car has "a new technology that scans traffic signs and adjusts the throttle to help drivers stay within legal speed limits and avoid fines." This system was first shown in Germany by Ford of Europe on Tuesday March 24th. Although it was created in German, Ford of Europe said that the car will be offered to customers all throughout the world. "The system does not apply the brakes but smoothly controls engine torque by electronically adjusting the amount of fuel delivered," the company said in a press release." This new technology could either fix many problems or cause many more problems.

"Huge marijuana bust at California border crossing nets 15 tons"

Last week, the Federal police in California found 15 tons of marijuana in the back of a semi labeled "mattresses and cushions." The truck came from Mexico and the Border Police said the x-ray of the truck didn't look right. Inside the truck, there were 1,296 plastic packages of weed that weighed 31,598 lbs and is estimated to be worth 18.96 million dollars. At a U.S. border crossing, this is the second largest weed bust in history. The first was in 2013 when the bust was weighed at 17.6 tons or 35,265 lbs.  Below is a photo taken at the bust.

Current Event #1 Jewish Cemetery Attack

On Thursday February 12, there were nearly 250 Jewish graves damaged in Sarre-Union, France. A 15 year old boy went to police and confessed that he had overturned some graves. He also said that there were four friends with him who were later taken into custody. A total of five 15-17 year old boys were taken into custody. All five of the boys were free of any criminal records in the past but could serve up to 7 years in prison. One boy claimed that it wasn't an anti-Semitic attack, and that they didn't know it was a Jewish Cemetery. They thought it was an abandoned cemetery. The attack was suspicious because there were two other attacks on Jewish cemeteries around Europe. In Poland and in New Zealand there was anti-Semitic graffiti written in cemeteries. Authorities don't know whether the attack at Sarre-Union was directed toward Jewish people or if it was just teenagers acting as teenagers.
